More than 200 volunteers from Pacific Life Foundation, Phoenix Academy, organizers from KaBOOM!, and the community will join forces on Saturday, May 7, to give our school a new playground based on our students’ drawings created at a special design event in March.
Volunteers- we need YOUR help to make this playground build a success! As we were awarded a “Build it with KaBOOM” grant that means our community will come together to build our new playground in just ONE day. We will need at least 75 volunteers from Phoenix Academy to help with this project. Volunteers can be age 16 and older. Breakfast, lunch and plenty of water will be provided.

The previous playground at our school did not accommodate the age range and number of students at our school. This new playground will provide our students with a safe, age-appropriate, accessible place to play. As an intervention school for students who struggle with reading and math, playtime/recess is an important component to our school’s success. By offering three recesses a day, our school finds that we get more out of our students while in the classroom.
A playground is more than a playground. It’s a brain-expander, friend-maker, and muscle-builder. Play is central to a child’s ability to grow into a productive adult. It can transform children from sedentary, bored and solitary to physically, mentally and socially active. Since 1996, KaBOOM! has been dedicated to the bold goal of giving all kids – particularly those growing up in poverty in America – the childhood they deserve, filled with balanced and active play, so they can thrive. With its partners, KaBOOM! has built, improved and opened nearly 16,300 playgrounds, engaged more than one million volunteers, and served 8.1 million kids
The playground is the fifth built by Pacific Life Foundation and KaBOOM!. Through this partnership, more children will have the joyful childhood they deserve. Pacific Life Foundation supports KaBOOM! in promoting and protecting a child’s right to active play at home, at school and in the community.
Thank you and we appreciate your help!
