Getting “Gritty” and Ready for the Scholarship Luncheon

Screen Shot 2017-01-27 at 9.37.32 AMThis week, our students were tasked with a very important art project: making the centerpieces for our upcoming Scholarship Luncheon!  For every luncheon, our students help create the wonderful centerpieces that make our tables come to life.

With the theme of this year’s luncheon being “Grit,” (Our keynote speaker is Angela Duckworth, author of the bestselling book, “Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance.”) the centerpieces were created using sand and succulents.

Using both natural and (Phoenix Academy) colored sand, our students filled mason jars making unique designs and patterns.  Once filled with sand, each jar was then topped with three different types of succulents.  As a finishing touch, a ribbon and thank you card hand-written by each student was attached.  Thank you to Blooms in Rockbrook, Miss Sheila and Miss Lindsey for creating and helping with this art project.  As you can see from the pictures, our students has a blast!

For those of you attending the luncheon on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, you will have the option to bring one of these home! The centerpieces will be available to take home for a minimum $20 donation.
