The 2015 Phoenix Academy Scholarship Luncheon was held Friday, October 2 at Hilton Omaha. More than 350 supporters attended the luncheon, which featured Dr. JoAnn Deak, noted educator, psychologist and author of Your Fantastic Elastic Brain, and raised more than $125,000 for the school’s scholarship fund.
The event also honored two champions of literacy in the Omaha community. In recognition of her contributions to Omaha’s secondary school and university communities, Dr. Maryanne Stevens, RSM, was honored as the recipient of the 2015 Mactier/Clark Literacy Educator Award recognizing work that advances proficiency in literacy and education. Michael B. Yanney received the 2015 Holland Literacy Advocate Award in recognition of his 25+ years of advocacy, time, energy and resources dedicated to advancing literacy and education for disadvantaged youth.
The program included four current Phoenix Academy students and one parent who shared how Phoenix Academy has transformed their lives and helped shape their futures. A former student, who recently graduated high school and is now thriving in college, had the honor of introducing Dr. JoAnn Deak.
The luncheon was an amazing event and we want to thank all the attendees, donors, students, parents and staff who made this event possible. It is with your generous contributions we are able to serve our students and fulfill our mission: to educate and inspire students with learning differences to realize their full academic potential and become successful in school and in life. On behalf of all of us at Phoenix Academy, thank you for your support of our school.
