Project Hope, Inc. the GOTR Community Service Project

IMG_1476 Our Phoenix Academy Girls on the Run chose as their Community Service Project collecting food for Project Hope, Inc. Working on a community service project is part of the Girls on the Run curriculum. Project Hopes mission is to “Share your food with the hungry…. Give clothes to those who need them”.

The GOTR girls had a working lunch one school day and created posters to put all over the school asking students to bring in food for Project Hope, Inc.  The girls issued a challenge to all the homerooms to see who could bring in the most canned goods and non perishable food items.  The challenge was that the homeroom contributing the most food items would win a popcorn party!  We are so proud of all our Phoenix Academy students for collecting a grand total of 1,097 items at last count with food still coming in!  All of our students were winners.  Bringing in the most items and winning the popcorn party was Mrs. Ryan’s homeroom.

Several students and teachers delivered the food to Project Hope, Inc.  Lori Lindberg the Executive Director was thrilled with the delivery.  She was especially happy because donations are usually down during the summer months when they are needed the most  Ms. Lindberg then gave them a tour of the emergency pantry that approximately 1,500 people visit per month. We thank Mr. Cunningham, Mrs. Ryan, Mrs. Jorgensen, Mrs. Osten and several students for delivering the food.

Project Hope welcomes donations of food, canned and fresh, and clothes of all sizes throughout the year. Any and all donations are needed and greatly appreciated. IMG_1482 IMG_1481 IMG_1478
